SABBY SABS - CHANNEL DESIGN + INTRO
ANIMATION - DESIGN
Shortly after completion of our documentary REMOVED: BLACK ERASURE IN BOSTON, Sabrina Salvati brought me onboard to redesign her channel art and create a new intro animation. This included crafting a whole suite of graphic design imagery to be used for Youtube profile and banner imagery as well as general use branding logos in both circular and rectangular formats. Utilizing the existing limited branding color palette, I wanted to make a design style that would translate well on both larger and smaller scale formats, striking a balance between a lightly textured look and a very clean overall aesthetic.
The main task with the intro video was to hype people up and to draw the audience into the world of the broadcast with a very clear picture of what types of information will be covered, while also keeping it short and to the point. To that end, I combined location maps in brand colors, composited video assets from the broadcast inside display windows, animated text reveals, audio reactive waveforms, and various vector graphics alongside animated versions of the updated branding assets to create the final product. One huge curveball that was thrown our way was the low bitrate cap on the side of Streamyard streaming platform, which during the test phases on the platform caused unacceptable levels of artifacting. This meant going back in and drastically simplifying some of the moves throughout the sequence to get it to a happy place where the Streamyard wouldn’t throw a fit. Above, however, I’m presenting the original version that looks as it was intended to look. :). Additionally I created a shorter ‘stinger’ version of the logo lockup to use before clips and a branded countdown video to play before the intro on live broadcasts.
