Working at the direction of filmmaker Kathy Kasic, the animations I created for this project were largely maps and vector graphic animations. For the maps I utilized Geolayers within After Effects to combine location map imagery with overlying data visualization pulled from published science sources. For the vector graphic animations I adapted and in some cases co-created designs for animation in After Effects to establish locations and geophysical processes to help underscore the science and the story being told. The key in finding the balance between the two different animation approaches was to harmonize the color palette while utilizing a pleasing, approachable and simplified design style.
